Workplace Relations in Australia is now administered by the Attorney‑General’s Department as a result of the Administrative Arrangements Order introduced on 29 May 2019.

Comcare works with employees and employers to reduce the human and financial costs of workplace injuries and disease in the Commonwealth jurisdiction.

Comcare is a Commonwealth statutory authority established under:

  • the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1988 (SRC Act) and 
  • covered by the Commonwealth Authorities and Companies Act 1997 (CAC Act).

Comcare administers:

  • the Commonwealth's workers' compensation scheme under the SRC Act; and
  • the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (WHS Act).

Comcare provides advice to the Minister for Employment on issues relating to the administration of the Commonwealth's work health and safety and workers' compensation frameworks.
