Consultation on Skilled Migration Occupation Lists

The Department of Employment, Skills, Small and Family Business (formerly the Department of Jobs and Small Business) (the Department) is responsible for regularly reviewing the skilled migration occupation lists to ensure they are responsive to genuine skill needs across Australia. To support this, the department consults with industry, employers, unions and individuals in developing advice for the Australian Government on the occupations required to meet the labour market needs of the Australian economy.

Current status

The next update to Australia’s skilled migration occupation lists is scheduled to be announced in March 2020.

On 4 September 2019, the Department commenced a review of the skilled migration occupation lists. 

The Department is currently meeting with interested stakeholders. If you would like to meet with the Department please email skilledmigrationlist@employment.gov.au.

Previous consultation processes

In October 2017, the department published its draft methodology for providing advice on the composition of the STSOL and MLTSSL. The submissions received through this process are now available online. This consultation process is now closed.

In November 2017, the Department consulted on possible changes to the skilled migration occupation lists for the January 2018 update. The submissions received through this process are now available online. This consultation process is now closed.

In May - June 2018, the department consulted on possible changes to the skilled migration occupation lists. The public submissions received through this process are now available online. This consultation process is now closed. Following this review the skilled migration occupation lists were updated in 11 March 2019.
