Consultation on Skilled Migration Occupation Lists

The Department of Employment, Skills, Small and Family Business (the Department) is responsible for regularly reviewing the skilled migration occupation lists to ensure they are responsive to genuine skill needs across Australia. To support this, the department consults with industry, employers, unions and individuals in developing advice for the Australian Government on the occupations required to meet the labour market needs of the Australian economy.

Current status

We have published a Traffic Light Bulletin outlining proposed changes to the skilled migration occupation lists and are seeking public submissions. The submission period concludes on 12 February 2020.

You can provide feedback on the Traffic Light Bulletin by clicking on the ‘Start a new submission’ button below and filling out the online survey form.

If an occupation does not appear on the Traffic Light Bulletin then no change is proposed to the current status of that occupation. The current skilled migration occupation lists can be found on the Combined current list of eligible skilled occupations page of the Department of Home Affairs website.

This Traffic Light Bulletin is for consultation purposes only. It does not represent a decision of Government. As part of this consultation, the Department is working closely with stakeholders to identify new and emerging occupations not currently listed in the Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO). The Department strongly encourages stakeholders to provide evidence of occupations not currently listed in ANZSCO in the relevant section of the online submission tool.

Guidance on making a submission are available in our Submission Guidelines.

Once you have commenced a submission, there is a link at the bottom of the survey form which allows you to save and return to the survey at a later date. In addition, a survey walkthrough document showing all steps within the survey form is also available to assist in completing a submission.

Please note: The Department publishes submissions made through the online survey form, unless you request that your submission be kept confidential (which you can do by clicking a box within the form).
