Consultation on Skilled Migration Occupation Lists

The Department of Education, Skills and Employment (the Department) is responsible for regularly reviewing the skilled migration occupation lists to ensure they are responsive to genuine skill needs across Australia. To support this, the department consults with industry, employers, unions and individuals in developing advice for the Australian Government on the occupations required to meet the labour market needs of the Australian economy.

Current status

The submission period is now closed. You can still access the Traffic Light Bulletin and the Department’s updated methodology remain available on this website.

We will publish details of the final decision of Government on this website, when it is announced. An update to the skilled migration occupation lists is expected to be announced in March 2020.

Previous consultation processes

In October 2017, the department published its draft methodology for providing advice on the composition of the STSOL and MLTSSL. The submissions received through this process are now available online. This consultation process is now closed.

In November 2017, the Department consulted on possible changes to the skilled migration occupation lists for the January 2018 update. The submissions received through this process are now available online. This consultation process is now closed.

In May - June 2018, the department consulted on possible changes to the skilled migration occupation lists. The public submissions received through this process are now available online. This consultation process is now closed. Following this review the skilled migration occupation lists were updated in 11 March 2019.
