Council of Australian Governments Skills Council


The Council of Australian Governments (COAG) Skills Council was established by COAG to develop and implement high-level policies that will assist Australian industry to be competitive and motivated to create jobs and investment.

The Skills Council is responsible for:

Skills development and national training arrangements.

The Skills Council focuses on major policy reforms that require Commonwealth-State collaboration.

Skills ministers will work together through a new COAG Skills Council, in consultation with education ministers, to advise leaders on future reform priorities by the end of 2019 and provide a reform roadmap to COAG in early 2020.

The Skills Council is chaired by the Commonwealth Minister with portfolio responsibility for Skills. The Council may engage directly with selected industry stakeholders to inform discussion and deliberation.

When required the Council will work collaboratively with other COAG councils on matters of shared interest.

The COAG Skills Council was announced on 9 August 2019, which replaces the former COAG Industry Skills Council (CISC).
