TRIAL: PaTH Internships

Valuable work experience

A PaTH Internship is a workplace trial so you can get work experience that could lead to a job. It is a chance for you to show an employer what you can do and how you fit into their business.

An internship gives you on-the-job experience in a business that interests you, working on activities that match your skills and qualifications. Internships run for four to 12 weeks, with participation of between 30 to 50 hours per fortnight. PaTH Internships are voluntary, so if the industry or workplace isn’t what you expected, you can leave the placement at any time without it affecting your Youth Allowance or Newstart Allowance payment.

Extra payment

When you start your internship, you get an extra $200 a fortnight on top of your Youth Allowance or Newstart Allowance payment.

Your provider also supports you during your internship to make sure you have the best chance of success.

Find out if you can do an internship

To do a PaTH Internship, you must be 17 to 24 years of age, on income support and registered with jobactive, Transition to Work or Disability Employment Services.

Talk to your employment services provider to see if you are eligible to do an internship and if there are any opportunities in your local area.

HIRE: Financial incentive for businesses to hire you

If you need an edge to get the job you want, let your prospective employer know they should contact your jobactive provider and ask about a wage subsidy.
