International skills engagement

For:

The Australian Government progresses its international skills engagement by establishing and maintaining systems and policies to support the international vocational education and training (VET) student market, both onshore and offshore, and by ensuring Australia is viewed as a leader and innovator in international skills policy and system design.

Since 2013, key initiatives have focused on the development of policy frameworks and innovative training products, including the International Skills Training (IST) courses , and capacity-building initiatives to develop VET systems aligned with local industry needs. These have been progressed through bilateral partnerships and engagement in multilateral fora.

VET International Engagement Strategy 2025

Launched in December 2019, the VET International Engagement Strategy 2025 (the Strategy) signals the Australian Government’s commitment to deliver on the full potential and reputation of the Australian (VET) sector internationally, and ensure its sustainable growth.

The Strategy seeks to position Australia as a country of choice for the provision of quality VET and as a leader in the development of a globally skilled workforce.

It will achieve this by setting out a framework of key targeted actions that  aim to increase Australia’s share in the international education market, grow international demand for Australian VET expertise, and open up market opportunities offshore for Australian VET providers. .

Organisations and agencies can use the Strategy as a guide to inform their individual strategic plans and international engagement activities.

The Strategy also signals the Australian Government’s commitment to deliver on the goals of the National Strategy for International Education 2025 to support the sustainable growth of Australia’s VET sector internationally.

An implementation plan for the Strategy will be developed in 2020 with a working group drawn from the VET sector, industry and government and will be guided from the Expert Members of the Council for International Education.
