Mature Age Hub

Life expectancy for Australians has increased over 30 years in the past 100 years. This longer life expectancy means we can, and are, working longer.

Businesses value older workers as they can bring extensive life and work experience, knowledge and skills as well as filling gaps in mentoring and coaching.

There are however barriers to employment for many older Australians, including age discrimination, health concerns, juggling carer needs and the requirement to upskill in a changing jobs market.

Many organisations are working to remove these barriers by offering flexible hours, including age in their diversity policies and assisting workers to transition roles by re-skilling.

The government is also working to remove these obstacles by introducing training and incentives specifically for Australian workers over 45 years. You will find further detail on these and links to research throughout these pages.
