Matching a growing business with a mature age worker has proved a boost for Tweed Heads business Firestorm Motorcycles and its new Restart employee.
Restart is an Australian Government financial incentive of up to $10,000 to help businesses hire and retain employees 50 years of age and over.
The owner of Firestorm Motorcycles, Sam Hurley, recently hired experienced IT professional Brett Fletcher with the help of Restart.
“We specialise in parts and accessories and ride gear — both in store and online,” Sam said.
“With Brett’s background with IT, his skillset with computers and his interest and passion with bikes I knew he was a good fit.
“The Restart subsidy has been a real boost to the business to contribute towards wages and for training and other things when putting a new employee on.”
For Brett, the Restart wage subsidy was a blessing.
“This job came up and it had e-commerce and motorbikes and I knew it just had my name on it,” Brett said.
“I contacted Sam and over the course of two weeks we had two interviews. Both went great and it’s gone from strength to strength. My gratitude goes to Sam for giving me an opportunity.”
Sam said Brett had been an asset from day one. “Just being diligent with everything and committed — all those assets that any business owner would appreciate,” he said.
“A lot of employers can only benefit through someone who has had a life of experience.”
Sam said the employment services provider helped guide him through the process.
Restart is available to eligible participants in jobactive, Disability Employment Services and the Community Development Programme. Local employment services providers can assist employers with their recruitment needs and discuss individual eligibility for a wage subsidy.
